Tracking

Scenario

In a Tracking Scenario, players must pick up the trail of their quarry and follow it until they locate it. They may be searching for a specific species of cryture to bind for themselves, a nest of crytures that are causing trouble, a party of missing tribesfolk, or a gang of outcasts. Players will have to manage their time, risk, and Stamina while contending with hostile wilderness and wild crytures.

Rules

A Tracking Scenario uses an Overland Map, plus the stats and tables of the biome that it takes place in. Turns are in Strategic Time and take approximately 1 hour.


Players must first pick up a trail with the Find Tracks action before they can follow it, then use the Follow Trail action to accumulate Clues. Once they accumulate a number of Clues equal to the space’s Density, they find their quarry and can engage them with other Scenarios.

When the players pick up a new trail, randomly determine the number and composition of the group it leads to using the tables of the current biome. If they are looking for a known location, such as a human camp or a cryture nest, they can skip the random determination.

 

After each round, a Complication is rolled, and the players lose 1 Clue as the trail gets colder.

Common Actions

The following actions are specifically useful to this Scenario, and can be taken without any extra abilities or equipment.​

Find Tracks

You search the area for a trail to follow.

Cost: 1 Stamina

Type: Tracking, Zoology

Focused Action

Roll: Sense + Observation or Nature vs Density

Success: You find a trail to follow and gain 1 Clue per success.

Follow Trail

You follow the direction of the tracks.

Cost: 1 Stamina

Type: Tracking, Zoology

Focused Action

Roll: Sense + Observation or Nature vs Density

Success: You gain 1 Clue per success.

 

Study Tracks

You examine the trail to learn more about your quarry.

Cost: 1 Clue

Type: Knowledge

Passive Action

Effect: You learn the size or the species of the group you're following.​

Lookout

You keep an eye out for potential danger.

Cost: 1 Mana

Type: Awareness

Passive Action

Effect: Until your next turn, each party member gets a bonus to Awareness, Insight, Reactions and Vigor equal to your Sense.

 

Get Vantage

You climb to a higher point, getting a better view of the terrain.

Type: Exploration

Focused Action

Roll: Fitness + Athletics vs Density

Success: The next Explore action gets a +1 Roll Modifier per success.

 

Aid

You help an ally with a task.

Type: Support

Focused Action

Effect: One party member gets a Die Modifier to their next roll equal to your Talent used in the roll.
